My friend Shaw and her husband had asked me to do a photo shoot of them so I had checked out the photogenic lights from school to do this photo shoot with them. It was a real easy and relaxing photo shoot since I am very comfortable with them. I was able to request them in any way that was needed to get the photo shoot done. They both did a great job following directions and what not. Over all I had a good time shooting this session.
I had been totally stressing out this past week, why, well because this quarter is quickly coming to an end and I had not expected it to come this fast. I am a bit behind on my photo essay and yes I am not going to lie about it! I had been pretty bad on staying on top of my assignments lately. Thats horrible of me! But anyways.. Here is a sneak peak of my photo essay.. Can you guess what my photo essay is about just by looking at this photo?
All I gotta say is, while doing this photo essay I had learn a whole lot!!
I’ll post up more photos once my photo essay is completed! I am almost done, I just need to sync in some part of the audio with the video and hope it fits as how I had planned it to be and then put SUBTITLES in the video. I now have to find a nice traditional Hmong instrument song (the flute?) for this photo essay, can any one suggest a good one asap?
Oh by the way, my video quality sucks butt! my sister broke my awesome Canon point and shoot so I am stuck with my aunt’s fuji digital, so the video quality sucks butt and NO my digital SRL does not shoot video, give me some money and I’ll be able to purchase the 50D Mark II then I can start doing video from the camera. ahaha.

This past weekend during the NC Hmong New Year I was able to watch the whole entire Mr. HSP 2009-2010 pageant and I must say, it was well entertaining. I must had smile and laugh the whole time I was watching this “pageant”. I thought these guys did a great and funny job at coming on stage and just having fun, they were all great looking and entertaining.
Also I thought the winner was well deserve! Well they are all winners!!!
Here are two images I had taken for my advance portraiture class, these two are my Fantasy Photoshoot. I had dressed Cindy up in the White Hmong pants outfit and took the pictures from there. I had taken these images over Thanksgiving break and did not capture many good photos, but I guess two is good enough.
I just got back from the North Carolina Hmong New Year late last night and was super tired, although I did sleep in the car during that 4 long hours in the car, I was still super tired! anyways…
First off, how was everyone’s Thanksgiving? Mine was good, I had a good time spending it with the family! My whole imediate family was there which includings our family and my dad’s younger sister’s family and my dad’s younger brother’s family. We had pho on Wednesday night, yumm! then on Thursday morning we had brunch then for dinner we had Turkey! My mom’s yummy turkey! We took some photos, I’ll post them once I finish editing them!
anywho….
I was at the North Carolina New Year Celebration on Friday and Saturday, just got back home late last night and still is super tired from the long drive and the tiring days. I was dressed up on Friday for about ummm, I say 2 hours, then my feet was starting to hurt because I was in high heels and the rocks were not doing so well on my feet and it was very windy and cold so I gave up on it and changed to something nice and warm. I pretty much just walked around the new year and then spent the majority of my time watching the dance competition and then we headed to my aunt’s uncle’s house and spent the night there. I actually went out with a friend of mine and then met up with two of my Georgia friends, in fact I saw a lot of Georgia people!
Day two for me, but day three for the celebration, I didn’t do much, I got there saw, two of my friends, one of them is considered my sister in law, and we talked for a bit then went down to the entertainment area and met some people and then we all split up. I pretty much just stayed around the entertainment area and just watch the end of the dance competition and also the guy’s handsome competition LOL… I thought the winners were well deserved between the two competitions.
As always the food there was great! Hmong sausage with purple rice and peppers and papaya, yummm! thats what I always end up eating when I am at Hmong events! LOL
So I stole these pictures from Nye Noona since I didnt bring my camera I wasn’t able to take any pictures. Click here for her entire post.
Here is another dance performance by my cousins at the Georgia Hmong New Year. The name of their dance group is “Ntxhais Hmoob Yaj Siab”, these girls are in the age range of 8-13.
THey danced to Kos Lis and Suab Nag’s song “Nkauj Toj Siab Nraug Huav Nroog”
My lilttle cousins danced for the Georgia Hmong New Year and I thought I should share their dance. The girls ranged from age 5 to 13. In this dance, it was a total of two groups combine together. These girls did a great job for their age, if they continue dancing, they will become extremely good dancers and I cannot wait til these girls gets older and show their skils!
First off, I want to say THANKS to my friend Lasia for the awesome Hmong Lyrics, as she had said, her Hmong writing skills are still pretty new, so there may be some spelling errors in it, so if you guys find any, please let me know so I can correct them.
WHEW!!! This must had been one of the hardest songs I had ever translated! Why, well in this song, they used a lot of metaphors that are used amongst the elders to teach the youngsters life lessons and a lot of those are just almost impossible to translate into understanding correct American terms. I know what they mean and what they are, but it’s just hard to find the right words to make the term meaningful or understandable. SO IF ANYONE CAN CORRECT OR FIX ANY OF THOSE TERMS SO IT’LL BE MORE UNDERSTANDABLE PLEASE DO LET ME KNOW SO I CAN FIX IT!!!
This is one reason why I LOVE the Sounders!! They turn old Hmong terms into a great modern and meaningful songs, or they use huge Hmong words that are not used in everyday Hmong language anymore, another word, they are preserving the Hmong culture in their songs! Not just that but their songs are very meaningful, the depth of their songs are deep and strong, and I just never get tired of listening to their music.
Again, just a reminder, their album will be released this Thanksgiving, so go out and buy their album, support them! We all had been waiting for about 5 years for this album to be released and it’s finally here!!!
I had said I’ll translate this song from one of my previous post, so here it is.

Youtube of The Sounder’s song “Kuv Hlub Koj”. I really like the video!!!
The most anticipated album of the year has to go to The Sounder’s upcoming album entitled “Kuv Hlub Koj” (I Love You) or as it had been titled in the album “KHK”.
The Sounders new album titled “Kuv Hlub Koj” will be released on November 26, 2009. The new album will also include 6 new music videos (hopefully from this album). They will also have a huge concert on November 27th 2009 in Sacramento CA at the Radisso Grand Ballroom at 500 Leisure Lane, debuting their new release “Kuv Hlub Koj”. Special guest performers will be Sudden Rush, Proto J and The Clue.
So everyone please go out and support them, buy their album and attend their concert if you will be in the Sacramento area during the Thanksgiving weekend for the Hmong New Year in Sacramento! If only I was to be in that area, I would be the first one there and I’ll be a VIP if possible! That’s how much of a huge fan I am!
Finally this album will be out in a week! I am really hoping to be able to go to North Carolina for the NC Hmong New Year so I can look for this album!! I will totally buy it and support these guys! I had been a fan since their first album and I had been a fan since then! These guys had not ever once disappoint me with their music!
I am really liking this song… I got my hands on this song today and the song is called “Piv Txoj Lus” from The Sounder’s unreleased album. The song title translates to “Let’s just say”. It’s hard to actually give the meaning of the title of this song, but the song title is suggesting old saying that was said by the elders to teach the youngsters life lessons.
I would totally translate this song but then I don’t have the Hmong lyrics and I have’t been able to talk to Sara lately so once I can, I hope she wont mind writing the song lyrics for me to translate.
This means I really need to find a Hmong class so I can learn how to read and write in Hmong fully. I can read Hmong but my Hmong writting skills are horrible.
If you guys don’t know yet, The Sounders are my all time favorite Hmong band!
Watch for their newest album due by late this year or early next year! I can’t wait to get my hands on this album!!!!
